文中提到的「The former Ahur Mazda」理論上應該是指佛教的釋迦牟尼,但這邊卻借了祆教至上神「Ahur Mazda」來指稱,Jaini此處使用的是Ernst Leumann的版本,譯自于闐文,不知是否是因為在西域地區這兩個宗教神祇名稱通用所致?
此外,Stavisky於1980年發表在JIABS的一篇論文*2也值得注意,文中提到在烏茲別克境內的Kara-tepe遺址中發現了一幅壁畫,禪坐的佛像周圍被火燄所包圍,在接近該佛像頭部附近則有3-4世紀左右的貴霜文體銘文寫著「Buddha-Mazda」。
由西域到中亞,我們都可見佛教與祆教之間的鏈結,此鏈結當是佛教傳入新領域時採用的借用手法,僧侶階級或許還會知曉自身信仰的標的為何,但是一般的普羅大眾在面對一尊標示著「Buddha-Mazda」的佛像時,到底是如何去解讀他──祆教神祇?佛教神祇?祆/佛無二?
